1. Rachel Hsieh, UCLA, California
父親:謝志成

Dear Scholarship Donor(s),

I am honored to have been selected to receive the Cenzone Tech Inc./Professor Young Chen Memorial Fund for 2018. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your generosity.

As I approach my junior year at UCLA as a Piano Performance major, I'm still involving myself in the community and I plan on doing more! Volunteering and helping others is something I am passionate about and I hope to give more back to the community I live in, while maintaining my schoolwork.

Again, thank you for selecting me for this scholarship. I will be able to further my future goals and aspirations as a musician. I hope that one day, I will be able to help students achieve their hopes and aspirations.

Sincerely,
Rachel Hsieh

Dear SDTCA members and scholarship donors,

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for your contributions to the 2018 Cenzone Tech, Inc./Professor Young Chen Memorial Fund. Each and every one of you has played a role in allowing me to continue my studies at Barnard College, Columbia University. As a double major in political science and human rights, I am passionate about creating a more equitable society through policymaking, international development, and public health. In addition to excelling in my classes and working off campus, I am an executive board member of Columbia GlobeMed, a member of Model United Nations, an actress in university theatre productions, and an accomplished violinist, playing in chamber groups and taking private lessons at the Manhattan School of Music. Having the opportunity to attend a fantastic liberal arts college within an Ivy League university, located in the heart of New York City, has been an incredible journey so far.

I believe that giving someone a good education is the most important way to make an impact on their life and on the lives of those around them. This idea operates everywhere in the world and in every strata of society; I have seen it in action in the developing world over the past few years, through work I’ve done in Latin America and Africa. I am incredibly fortunate to have a family and community that supports my educational endeavors wholeheartedly and encourages me to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded to me. By contributing to this scholarship, you have directly contributed to the transformative undergraduate education that will help me, as part of the next generation of Taiwanese Americans, impact the world around me and find success in whatever career I choose to pursue.

In addition to contributing to my education, this scholarship strengthens my connection with my Taiwanese heritage and my grandparents in SDTCA. In recent years, I have been exploring my identity as a Taiwanese American through learning Chinese, familiarizing myself with modern Taiwanese culture and politics, and connecting with distant relatives. Learning about Taiwanese history and the strong spirit of my family has given everything that I thought I knew new color and greater meaning. I am so grateful that through this scholarship, I can honor all of their struggles and sacrifices that brought me to where I am today.

Thank you so much for being part of this scholarship program and investing in the next generation of Taiwanese Americans. Your contributions have an invaluable impact on every life that they touch.

Sincerely,
Alison Shu Kahn

3. Parker Jameson Kim, The University of Akron, Ohio
祖父:林國基

Dear Scholarship Donors of the Cenzone Tech Inc./Professor Young Chen Memorial Fund,

Thank you so much for awarding me this scholarship! I hope to use this money to help fund my education. My name is Parker Kim and I’m a student starting my second year of the BS/MD program at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. I was accepted into this program from high school, and it means I will complete 3 years of undergraduate study at The University of Akron, followed by 4 years at the Northeast Ohio Medical University. I would just like to say how thankful I am for being given such a prestigious award. I’m very fortunate to have the opportunities that I have today: to be able to go to college and to have the chance to attend medical school. I have my family to thank, not only for all of the opportunities that they have offered me, but for showing me how rewarding being a physician can be. Both of my parents and many of my relatives are physicians themselves, and I look up to them all and aspire to be as caring and altruistic as they are in life. If it were not for their constant support and guidance, then I would not be where I am today. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Parker Kim
