新種獎學金得獎人謝函
Anna Lin (林安娜)

Thank you to the San Diego Taiwan Cultural Association (SDTCA) and Cenzone Tech Inc. for the generous scholarship. I would also like to express my appreciation to the CEO of Cenzone Tech for his contribution. I am the granddaughter of Kou Chi and Chien Chien Lin and greatly appreciate their support as well. Currently, I am a sophomore at the Pennsylvania State University, and I am in the seven-year combined BS/MD program with Penn State and Sidney Kimmel Medical School (formerly Thomas Jefferson Medical School) in Philadelphia. The seven-year program allows me to graduate from Penn State in three years and get a conditional acceptance into the medical school. The opportunity the program affords has allowed me to get involved in various organizations and activities on campus.

At Penn State, I have been involved in the Penn State International Affairs and Debate Association, or more commonly known as Model UN Club. This fall we are running a high school model UN conference, and I am head of communications for the conference. My responsibilities include answering all communications for registration and pre-conference logistics with high school advisers. During the conference, I would also be running a Press Corps committee that allows delegates the chance to write news articles on the various committees we are having. The conference is super exciting, and I cannot wait for the delegates to arrive.

Additionally, I am involved in the research lab of Aimin Liu in the developmental biology department. There I am studying the DNA of the specific proteins that are essential for embryonic develop. My research has taught me a lot in terms of lab technique and DNA construct.

Lastly, an organization I have been heavily involved with is Penn State’s Dance, affectionately known as THON.  The mission is to spread awareness and raise money for treatments and research for pediatric cancer. THON supports the Four Diamonds Foundation at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. The culmination of yearlong efforts is seen in a 46 hour no sleeping, no sitting dance marathon held every February. Last year, we raised over $9.7 million for the kids. I am involved both in the running of pre-THON events and THON weekend and an organization that supports a Four Diamonds Family. Through my org, last year I was the family relations chair and this year I am the primary THON chair. My responsibilities include organizing all fundraising trips and any fundraising drives that we have and organizing meetings. I support THON because every child deserves the joys of growing up, from scrapping knees from bike rides and attending summer carnival nights. As the oldest of four children with the youngest being nine years old, I was fortunate enough to watch my youngest brother grow up and enjoy his childhood, and I only want that opportunity for each child as well. THON and the Four Diamonds children I have met have inspired me to hopefully go into pediatric surgery in the future.

Thank you again to SDTCA and Cenzone Tech for the amazing scholarship and the opportunities it affords me.

Sincerely,

Anna Lin
