Realizing Our Dream—TAFSD Board’s Appeal for Financial Support

We have a dream! We, the Taiwanese Americans in Greater San Diego, have been dreaming that we will eventually have a permanent home for our Taiwanese American Community Center (TACC)! The time has come for us to realize this beautiful dream of ours.

A little over 10 years ago, a group of foresighted Taiwanese Americans founded the Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego (TAFSD). The mission of the TAFSD is to strengthen and enhance the Taiwanese American individual and family life in San Diego by: Engaging in charitable, educational and community activities that promote Taiwanese American culture and tradition in a diverse society; Promoting the health and social well-being of members of the Taiwanese American community and enhancing their quality life; and Providing assistance to immigrants and other newcomers to our community. A few of the Foundation’s founders made major donations to set up a permanent site fund of $2,000,000 which has since grown to nearly $2,900,000 by September 2007 even after TACC has taken about $60,000 every year from the fund’s annual income/interest to supplement the operation cost of TACC.

Instead of continuing to rent a building for the use of TACC, we are now actively searching for a suitable building at a suitable location to house TACC permanently. With a new facility we shall be able to plan for a new and improved Center. We, however, need much financial support from all members of our community so that we can raise in the next five years (2007-2011) $2,800,000 that is needed to facilitate the purchase and operation of the permanent site.

We are of course appealing to you all for support. We are pleading to you to help in building the needed funds by completing the attached donation pledge form.

We are looking not only for many big donors but also a great number of donors. We welcome whatever amount you are willing to pledge. We want you to help make TACC your TACC and not just that of a small number of big donors. To inspire more people to pledge/donate, an anonymous major supporter of TAFSD/TACC has most generously offered to match the total amount pledged/donated by the entire 7th category of donors – Brothers and Sisters. This means that those of you who donate any amount less than $2,500, this generous supporter of ours will match it. When a lot of you “Brothers and Sisters” donate whatever amount you can afford to give, due to matching, the total amount of donations from all “Brothers & Sisters” could very well surpass that of some of other categories. Therefore, please do not think that your individual contribution is insignificant. Like others’ contributions, any amount you donate will help us reach the goal.

Finally, for us to reach the fundraising goal it is essential that we have many of you who are willing to contribute a more substantial amount. We do plan to inscribe on the “Appreciation Wall” of the new TACC names of people who are willing to donate a total of $2,500 or more each during our 5-year campaign.
