新種獎學金得獎感言

Thank you so much to the San Diego Taiwan Cultural Association and Cenzone Tech Inc. for offering me this generous scholarship. My name is Cassie, and I am a senior pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration at Washington University in St. Louis, with a major in Marketing and minor in Design. This scholarship came to my knowledge through my parents, who are members of the SDTCA.

Aside from studying business and art at WashU, I am involved in a variety of student activities related to the performing arts. I have been an active member of WashU Hip Hop Union, our campus’ hip-hop dance team. We rehearse weekly, organize a showcase each fall, and compete in the spring. When I was president of the team my junior year, I worked with the choreography directors to push the team’s limits and bring us to competition for the first time spring 2016. I have also been involved in campus music through Sensasians A Cappella, our campus’ Asian-interest a cappella group. I became president my junior and senior year and have worked with the music directors to plan logistics for competitions and concerts. To our excitement, our a cappella group was able to win the 2016 Midwest quarterfinals in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella for the first time in our group’s history.

In addition to the performing arts, I am constantly an active member on the exec board of our Taiwanese Student Organization on campus. With a group of teammates who have quickly become like family to me, we actively promote Taiwanese culture and food throughout campus by planning various free food events that are coupled with educational seminars.

Outside of my campus activities, I have had the great opportunity to learn from internships at various organizations. As a marketing intern at MGX Copy, a San Diego based printer, I had the opportunity to conduct market research and assist in the design of mailers for a direct marketing campaign. During each academic year, I am a production assistant for my university’s music department and was able to help run various music showcases. At the same time, I was a Creative Services Intern at my university’s Office of Public Affairs, during which I assisted in design, editing, and writing for my university’s various marketing campaigns. The following summer, I was a sales operation and agent intern at Mathis Media Hub Radio and a marketing intern with 757 Media, an online promoter for new musicians on social media.

This past summer, I was so fortunate to be an intern at the American Institute in Taiwan’s Taipei Commercial Section (AIT Taipei). Much of my work involved behind the scenes logistics, design, and correspondence for seminars held at AIT’s office. I assisted with various export missions that involved planning networking seminars and conducting market research for corporations like Want Want Group. The most personally memorable projects I assisted with were the planning of Pfizer’s discussion seminar and networking events, and the redesign of a transnational Smart Cities newsletter that would be used to update commercial section offices throughout east and south Asia. Due to this amazing experience, I aspire to work in international business affairs and be able to further promote mutually beneficial exchanges across the world. By offering me this generous scholarship, the SDTCA and Cenzone Tech have provided me the support to work towards these goals. Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Cassie Hwang
