1. High School Scholarship


Since 1997, Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego (TAFSD) has been awarding every year three to six scholarships to college-bound high school seniors of San Diego County.The scholarships are provided by TAFSD and the Wu Family Scholarship Fund. There will be six $2,000 scholarships this year. Two of them are reserved for Taiwanese-American students.

The Scholarship Committee evaluates the applicants in terms of their academic achievements, service to the community, and leadership ability. Three of the six scholarships are reserved for qualified applicants with financial needs. The deadline for application is April 15 (post marked).

Due to the COV-19 Epidemic, the deadline will be extended to May 15, 2020. The winners will be announced at the end of May, 2020.

The award ceremony will take place at Taiwanese American Community Center on Taiwanese American Heritage Week opening ceremony (date to be notified).

Qualification and Requirements

  • High school seniors
  • GPA of 3.2 (non-weighted) or higher

(Candidates for the scholarship can either be nominated by school counselors or students can apply on their own. Applications by financially disadvantaged students are particularly encouraged.)


2. Taiwan Award


TAFSD presents a Taiwan Award to a student selected from the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair in March every year. The Award winner will receive up to $2,000.

3. Mao-Chun Memorial Fund


TAFSD has recently established a memorial fund to provide assistance to children with cerebral palsy in the greater San Diego area. The “Mao-Chan memorial fund” will award $700 cash each year to one cerebral palsy suffering child under 14, or an organization engaged in the therapy, caring, or education of children with cerebral palsy. The deadline for application is April 15th. The application form can be obtained from TACC or downloaded from the website: www.taiwancenter.com

4. Mother’s Day Special Award

In 2002, TAFSD established a “Kuan Chen Memorial Fund” and began to grant a $2000 cash award annually to a deserving special mother in the Greater San Diego area. The recipient of the Award will be honored at the 2007 Mother’s Day celebration. The selection criteria are as follows:

1)      Must be female who has children of her own or has played a mother’s role in a family.
2)      Must have such remarkable achievements as a mother that she is easily recognized as a role model for other mothers.
3)      Must be of Taiwanese descent.
4)      Must be a resident in Greater San Diego.
5)      Must have two letters of recommendation.

5. "Mr. Taiwan San Diego" Award

In 2015, the Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego established the “Prosecutor Yuling Wang Memorial Endowment” in order to present the “Mr. Taiwan San Diego” Award to praise and encourage a special Taiwanese gentleman in the Greater San Diego area.  The awardee will receive a prize of $2,000 USD.  The Award is presented during the annual Taiwanese American Heritage Week celebrations in San Diego.  The selection criteria are as follows:

  1. Has accomplished deeds or achievements worthy of being a role model for all fathers or husbands
  2. Or has made substantial contributions towards Taiwan’s democracy or society
  3. Must be of Taiwanese descent
  4. Must be a resident of Greater San Diego or the immediate family of one
  5. Please enclose two letters of recommendations

2019 Mr. Taiwan San Diego was awrded to Mr. Wu-Hung Liu

6. Honor volunteers of Taiwanese American Community Center

The invaluable contribution from volunteers is the key factor for the success of TAF. Every year this committee honors volunteers at Taiwanese American Community Center.
